Most online schools are only the screen. Ours is about half.

Our students spend about 16 hours a week in live classes. The rest of the program happens in their own town: exercise, a skill they’re mastering, service to others, reading, and earning their own money. An advisor checks in on all of it, 1-on-1, every week.

A typical online school34 h on screen
  • 20 h Recorded lessons and online modules
  • 8 h Online quizzes and auto-graded work
  • 6 h Homework, usually on a screen

Nearly every school hour is spent on a screen.

  • 5 h Physical exercise (minimum)
  • 5 h Personal expertise project (minimum)

Strong, compassionate, dynamic and wise.

Our approach, Education for Life, has guided schools in the U.S., Europe and India since 1972. It treats a teenager as more than a test score: every week develops the body, the feelings, the will and the mind — and the maturity that comes from balancing all four.

How Education for Life works

Body

Strong

At least five hours of movement a week — sports, martial arts, dance, climbing, running. Energy and focus come first.

Feeling

Compassionate

Daily practices for calm and self-awareness. Calm feeling supports clear thinking and deeper learning.

Will

Dynamic

Students set goals, keep a weekly time-block schedule with their advisor, and learn to follow through.

Intellect

Wise

A rich, connected curriculum that builds critical thinking and a wider view of the world.

= Maturitythe ability to relate wisely to realities other than one’s own

Once a year, classmates from a dozen countries meet in person.

The Service Adventure Trip is one to two weeks of travel, friendship and service somewhere new. Past trips have gone to Switzerland, Mexico, Peru and Assisi, Italy. Students help pay their own way with money they’ve earned during the year.

About homeschool classes

Families in every country face different costs. We work with each family to find tuition that works — please don’t let the published price stop you from asking.

In our students’ words

“The classes make students think, not memorize information. We get to develop our creativity and innovation as well as critical thinking.”

Hadia, student from Afghanistan

“The relationships are less of a student-teacher one, but more like a mentor and a friend.”

Rocco, student from Italy

“This school year was both challenging and enjoyable. The teachers challenged each of us individually and brought us out of our comfort zones.”

Disha, student from India

“The teachers are intelligent, inspiring and supportive, the topics are both relevant and engaging, and there is a focus on both academics and personal development.”

Husna, student from Afghanistan

“I loved having small classes and building strong relationships with my teachers and classmates.”

Sophia, student from USA

“I appreciate a lot how available and understanding teachers are.”

Valentino, student from Argentina

Teachers on four continents who know your child by name

An engineer who teaches physics with homemade demonstrations. A graduate of the school who now teaches world history. A Peace Corps veteran teaching Chinese from Hong Kong. With about eight students per teacher, nobody gets lost.

Where our graduates go

Content needed: 6–10 graduate destinations and 2–3 short alumni stories

Parents comparing online schools look for proof that the diploma leads somewhere. This section should list universities, gap-year programs and careers our graduates have gone on to — for example the University of Warsaw and the University of the People, where two of our teachers who are also alumni studied — plus a few one-paragraph alumni stories with photos.

How to join

No forms to download and email. Start with a question; we’ll guide you from there.

  1. Tell us about your child

A short inquiry form — two minutes. We reply within two school days.

    Confirm the reply-time promise

  2. Talk with the director

A video conversation with you and your child to see whether we are a good fit for each other.

  3. Sit in on a live class

Your child joins a real class with current students, so they can feel what it is like.

    Proposed — team to approve

  4. Apply and plan tuition

Submit the application. Once accepted, we agree on tuition and a payment plan that works for your family.

Questions parents ask first

Is this a religious school?

No. We teach universal qualities — patience, compassion, perseverance, calmness, kindness, service and inner joy — that anyone can develop regardless of belief. Practices like yoga, meditation and breathing exercises are taught as tools for focus and emotional balance. Our students come from many faiths and none.

How much time does my child spend on a screen?

About 16 hours a week of live classes, plus an hour of 1-on-1 advising. The rest of the program deliberately happens off the screen: exercise, a personal expertise project, service, reading and earning.

What if we can’t afford full tuition?

Because economic conditions differ so much from country to country, we work with every family to find a price that works. Tell us about your situation when you inquire; financial aid is arranged after acceptance.

Is the diploma recognized by universities?

Yes. Living Wisdom International (legal name Ananda Living Wisdom Schools of Nevada City) is a fully accredited online school through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), recognized worldwide since 1962. Our diploma supports admission to universities around the world.

What time are classes? We are not in California.

Our students live in more than 12 countries, so we schedule live classes across time zones. A full-time high school student is in live classes about 16 hours a week; exact times depend on where you live. Tell us your country and we will show you a real sample schedule.

See if Living Wisdom is right for your child.

Start with a conversation. Tell us about your child, and our director will set up a video call with you both — and a chance to sit in on a live class.
